Shortcast : Sacredness and Flow
Sunday Jun 05, 2022
Sunday Jun 05, 2022
What is sacredness? May you be are one of those people that have sacred moments in life.
This podcast explores how and why it is important to bring some sanctity back into our lives. There are some great exercises at the end for you to explore.
Queen Elizabeth II was celebrated throughout the UK over the weekend in her platinum Jubliee. I am not a great royalist, but I can recognise the achievement of a woman who has taken on a role that has so many sacred connections and rituals attached to it.
Life was very different in 1952; the sacred was part of everyone's life, just as it was. Incredibly, a large proportion of the UK population thought the queen was directly related to God, and her Coronation was an ancient ceremony created to reinforce that myth.
Society has moved on, and we are the better for it, but we have lost a few things along the way.
Let us explore why we need to reclaim what is sacred to us and see how it just makes life better.

Robyn Locke : Asking For Purpose
Wednesday Jun 01, 2022
Wednesday Jun 01, 2022
Are you searching for your purpose? Have you tried asking?
We are all searching for meaning and purpose; it may not look like it from your perspective. But searching for a new job or changing career is about the need for what we do to have meaning.
Yes, I appreciate it is about money too, but real happiness is discovered when we align with our values, and the work has a meaning that fits those values.
My guest on the show had the childhood idea of becoming a nun or a nurse, and she did neither.
She had a successful career becoming a VP of marketing for a Realta organisation. She organised events and did a lot of public speaking and team motivation, and it was all about her passion.
As the internet arrived and the business changed, the work became unsatisfying; she lost her passion, and Robyn was looking for a change.
Our conversation was a journey of spiritual discovery. Some of my listeners might find this a little woo.
Woo or not, what is amazing is that life seems to work well for people that have a guided outlook. Robyn had practical business training and a career, but it made her miserable.
Today Robyn is an author with three books, she is an energy healer and transformational coach, and she consults and speaks at events.

Shortcast : Regrets and Growth
Sunday May 29, 2022
Sunday May 29, 2022
Live life like you mean it and have absolutely no regrets.
That was a quote I saw on a friend's Facebook pages years ago.
Do you have regrets, or are you one of those who have none?
In this show, we will explore regret and how rumination of our regrets is so damaging and detrimental to our health. But also why having no regret is a lost opportunity.
You will discover what regrets are and why we have them.
Regret is the most common emotion that we ever experience, and of course, there is that famous work about the regrets of the dying, which are mostly about the loss of connections and not taking action.
We look at the four areas of regret and how regrets are a powerful tool for growth.
My thoughts and this conversation were prompted by the Psychology Podcast With Scott Kaufman and his interview with Dan Pink on his new book The Power of Regret.

Carole Brody Fleet : Widows Wear Stilettos
Wednesday May 25, 2022
Wednesday May 25, 2022
Life and death are beyond our control, but we can change our reactions. My guess on the show today is here with a story of loss grief and recovery. She is an international speaker with four books to her name.
Carole Brody Fleet lives in Southern California and started her career in the legal profession. She met a fantastic man, a Vietnam vet and a serving police officer. They had a daughter, and life was good.
After 15 years in the legal profession, the hours were not compatible with family life, so Carole moved into a senior position within the beauty and cosmetic industry.
In the late 90s, Mike was diagnosed with motor neuron disease, an illness that was brought to prominence by the late Stephen Hawkin. He lived with the disease for years, however, Carole's husband Mike had a more aggressive form and degenerated quickly, dying within two years.
Unlike most of my guests, asking questions about passion and success is not so easy when the journey is not a choice. But this story is about rebuilding a life, at a time when most of the resources for grief were unhelpful. It was a time before the internet and social media the resources were not there to find the support she needed..
Carole’s had five years of widowhood and found a route to the point where she was inspired to write. What started as notes on a legal pad became the best selling book and the beginning of a new career.
The book “Widows in Stilettos” is a chronological manual to help women out of grief, it helps them to find a new story for their life. It has been republished for its second edition. That is a testament to its success.
Carole’s mission her why is is to help those through loss and bereavement, in the process, she has created a community of supportive women around her.
Today Carole is an accomplished writer, with four books, she is a regular contributor to Chicken Soup of the soul, the Huffington Post. She is a speaker appearing on stage Radio, TV and on podcasts like ours.

Shortcast : Attention and Inspiration
Monday May 23, 2022
Monday May 23, 2022
Attention and Inspiration, where are you placing your attention?
There is a saying:
"Where your attention goes energy flows?"
In this podcast, I am looking at the importance of attention, where it is placed and how it can build us up or take us down.
We live in a world driven by the need to get our attention. The mass media channels and social platforms know that activating our base emotions will draw us in and hold our attention long enough to see adverts and buy stuff to make ourselves feel better.
In the show, we cover the benefits of managing your attention and how that leads to a better life for you and those around you.

Paula Telizyn A Near-Death Decision
Wednesday May 18, 2022
Wednesday May 18, 2022
Are you living to your full potential or cruising a path well-trodden? What if you had a moment, a close shave. A point where you could live or die. Would it change you?
Most of us live life as if it will go on forever, and for the majority of us, we get to experience 29500 days, letting them pass without much thought. I did a shortcast about that last year.
However, those life-changing moments bring it all into focus and make us reevaluate where we are.
The wake-up call can arrive at any time. For my guest on this show, it was staring at oncoming headlights and nowhere to go.
That near-fatal experience on the freeway started a chain of events; it was the moment that changed the direction of her life forever.
Paula had started a tech company in the early 90s, building websites, the first e-commerce sites in 1997 and the software for some of the first eBook readers.
Paula Telizyn could be the grandmother of the internet.
Despite all of this success, Paula was not happy. As someone with a mild form of ADHD, she was prone to overworking. She was running a full-time business, mothering three children, and the wonderful man she had married was now an out of work alcoholic with a tendency to violence.
The near-death experience was the wake-up call to look at her life and make some changes.
Our conversation is about the journey through a midlife crisis and out the other side. We talk about success, failure and relationships.

Shortcast : Breaking Routines
Sunday May 15, 2022
Sunday May 15, 2022
Are you stuck in a pattern, and does it serve?
Are your routines healthy and supportive or restrictive?
Only you will know, and maybe they need to be broken to be able to tell the difference.
In this show, we explore routines and why it is essential to take time out from life to break the patterns and observe the difference. Yes, even the good ones.
Some years ago, I was in a bit of a mess, the head was not in the game, and my coach suggested I take a bit of time out from everything, go somewhere new and do nothing for a few days.
I did. It was lovely, and wow, it cleared my head, leading to lots of new thinking.
The entrepreneurial gurus tell us to have strong routines as it saves brainpower for the more critical tasks. Habits are good; they provide stability, and it is energy efficient. It is impossible to be 100% on all of the time; it is unhealthy and leads to burnout.
Living a good life is all about balance ( IMO) and finding what we need to experience the best. Staying with what we know is comfortable, but it may not give us the best experience.
I suggest you break some patterns in the show and see what happens.
But I am away for the weekend cycling a few mountains, never done that before, I will let you know what I discover.

Lisa Evans : The Story Midwife
Wednesday May 11, 2022
Wednesday May 11, 2022
We often define ourselves by the career, it is our story of what we do in the world, when it is taken away we are forced to reinvent ourselves.
Lisa Evans was drawn to nursing at 17 years old; She qualified and trained as a midwife and specialised in neonatal care.
Nursing is an international career and opens so many travel opportunities. She set out on her travels to Australia in 1988, met an English man in 1990, married in 91, and they settled in Perth, Western Australia. In her words, they became grown-ups, settled, and had three children.
It is a lovely story of travel adventures, finding a career and settling into family life. But then as life does, the universe delivers a change.
A virus destroyed all of the nerves in her vestibular system, which means balance and hearing. The door to her nursing career closed, and now in her 40s, she had to find a new job and new meaning for her life.
Our conversation is about Lisa's journey into becoming the storytelling midwife and starting a new business and career at the age of 50.

Kevin Palimieri : Self Made & Miserable
Wednesday May 04, 2022
Wednesday May 04, 2022
What happens when reaching the dream, and you find it to be hollow, sometimes getting what we want is just not enough.
I think the guest on today's show coined it best when he said. “I tried to make something profitable into something I was passionate about.”
As you will hear in the introduction having it all was doing nothing for him, and he was close to taking his life, plus as a gun owner, he had the means to do it.
My guest on the show is a fellow podcast host and co-creator of the next level University Kevin Pulmari
He did not have the best start in life, he came from a broken home, and his childhood was hard and loveless with no positive male role models.
On leaving education he had a succession of jobs, from gas station to cleaning and driving.
He got into fitness and became a PT and life was ok, but money was always an issue.
An opportunity arrived, it would be hard physical work but it was more money than he had ever earned in his life. The job involved lots of travel and being away from home for weeks at a time. At the end of 2015 after 10 months on the road, he hit that magical number of the 6 figure income.
He had money, the car, the girlfriend but none of it made him happy. In fact, it was the reverse.
Our conversation is the story of Kevin's journey to that point of crisis and beyond. It was a phone call that saved his life, we talk about his move into personal development and how he built a new life from there.

Shortcast : Destiny Of Luck
Sunday May 01, 2022
Sunday May 01, 2022
In this show, I am exploring the destiny of luck and exploring how you could bring more luck in your direction.
Does it needle you when you hear about someone getting crowned with success or life's prizes? Do you see other people as just lucky?
I was thinking about this after a conversation with a guest AJ Lawrence; he told the story of an intern who left his company and became employee no five at eBay.
I can only imagine what those stock options must have been like for early investors.
Was that guy just lucky to find that role? I am sure millions of people became interns at companies that went nowhere. We only hear about the ones that made it.
But what if you could create your luck?
I think you can check out the show and explore that idea with me; listen to the end, and there are some resources to help you on that road.

Aaron Young : Corruption Crusader
Friday Apr 29, 2022
Friday Apr 29, 2022
My guest on the show became a crusader against corruption a fight that ended with time in an African prison. But, that is just an outcome of a story that starts with early trauma, fear, anger and addiction.
You are in for a conversation about love and compassion and becoming a being a better parent. There were a lot of lessons learnt on this journey.
Aaron Young is an Australian, born to a woman who was an addict and ill-equipped for motherhood. It was a difficult childhood, by his mid-teens he had given up on life but found a brotherhood in the gang scene turning to drugs, violence, and street crime. That got extreme, and after three years he had an awakening,
By 2004 he went travelling met and followed a woman back to Zimbabwe in Africa. And that was where the big adventure began. It was the opportunity for Aaron to express his passion and leave a mark on the world.
He discovered a natural talent to tune in to animal behaviour, working with wild elephants and lions in conflict zones. How do you convince a 10-tonne bull elephant to move on?
Sadly he witnessed lots of corruption in the conservation industry and began calling it out, which made him politically unpopular. Moving onto farming Arron was again confronted with corruption but this time he refused to back down.
The numbers were bigger, and the stakes were higher. When corruption is that deep and systemic, the system fights for its survival, Aaron was targeted with physical violence and eventually arrested on a range of trumped-up charges.
That is when he found himself the only white guy in an African prison, a 6m by 15m cell that you share with 75 other guys.
I was surprised to discover that Arron’s experience is normal life for Africa today in 2022. Our conversation is a fascinating insight into the workings and troubles of Zimbabwe and other African countries.
Aarons’ refusal to back down, came at a huge personal cost, the loss of his relationship and a life with his children.
“I went from being a Dad to being a prisoner, to being forcibly deported at gunpoint back to Australia.”
Our conversation is about that journey his healing and learning from the experience and his new mission. Which is to help people define what means to be a better man or woman and to create a better future for children and families.

Charles Read : Choosing To Be Happy
Wednesday Apr 20, 2022
Wednesday Apr 20, 2022
In this show, we hear about a life well-lived; it is about a partnership, friendship, love and loss. But it is also a story of consistency, and he claims insanity as he met and married a woman with five children.
I love this conversation because it is rich with the secrets to living a happy life.
My guest is Charles Read, he is a Vietnam war veteran, and his wife created one of the largest payroll companies in the USA; he also wrote one of the definitive books on payroll.
If you are not into payroll, our talk has nothing to do with numbers or accounts.
Charles graduated high school in 1966 but did not want to go to college. He had a few jobs before joining the Marine Corps, serving four years with a tour in Vietnam.
He returned to the USA and settled in Kansas City, where he met and married the love of his life with her five children.
While he claimed insanity, it was clearly a match well made as they were together for 45 years before she passed.
As he says, “She was the one that made the desert flowers bear fruit.”
In the military, he was IBM trained in Dos and Cobol programming. On leaving the service he could not get work that fitted his skillset, so he went back to college, earned a BBA and MBA, and discovered that he liked accounting going on to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA )
He found work with Texas Instruments as a financial analyst. Charles was in at the beginning of computerised accounting and payroll, and it was the start of the journey.
He left Texas instruments in 1991 to set up a mobile payroll and accounts service from a van. There was an opportunity to provide service too small operations did not have computers, so he brought one with him. That business is still thriving by changing and shifting with technology for over 30 years.
Our conversation explores the history of his life journey; it is also about his value and what it takes to stay motivated. As I said at the beginning, my conversation with Charles is rich with the secrets to living a happy life.
The man is fit and very active at 72 years old, has a plan to live to 106, and I think he will make it; he has a lower resting heart rate than mine. What can I say to that..

Lets Talk About Money with Sarah McCrum
Monday Apr 18, 2022
Monday Apr 18, 2022
While Sunday is usually the day for shortcasts, this show is about money and will not be short..
I am sharing a recording with Sarah McCrum from our Spirit-duality event as part of the celebration for the relaunch of her book (on the 19th April 2022).
Love Money, Money Loves You: A Conversation With The Energy Of Money
In this conversation Sarah covers her story and gives you a deeper understanding of her work and how you can improve your relationship with money. It is brilliant, but there is more. There is a Part 2 for this conversation where Sarah takes my wife Cheryl and I through some practical exercises for speaking with money – it’s powerful stuff.
Both of these conversations are normally behind the paywall on the Spirit-duality event pages. As part of our support for Sarah’s book launch, I am sharing Part 1 here and giving free access to Part 2 to anyone who purchases Sarah’s book.

Shortcast : Courage and visibility
Sunday Apr 10, 2022
Sunday Apr 10, 2022
How courageous are you?
The podcast was born of my search for more meaning in life, and the reality is that meaning does not just appear; it has to be found, nurtured and developed. On some level, we have to fight for it because that is the nature of the hero's journey. To find meaning, we have to become more visible and have the courage to do it.
On this show, I encourage you to look at what you stand for and I will be exploring the benefits gained from standing firm in a cause that we believe in and want to champion.
Over the last week, I took part in a 5-day challenge to be more visible in my mission and I will let you into my world and share thoughts on where I am heading.
I explore how the cause and our values are mixed and what that means.
Are you standing up for what you believe in? Because when we stand in our courage and be visible in our cause it is powerful. That means when stuff comes at us we experience it from a place of power and strength. Our ability to deal with it is far greater than if it would come at us in a place of weakness.
I will share with you some of my next steps and how I am going to take my mission forward.
Do the exercises and tell me how you get on I would love to know what you do with it.

Shortcast : Triple the Joy With Gratitude
Sunday Apr 03, 2022
Sunday Apr 03, 2022
Last week I spoke about doubling the joy of a happy event through the experience of anticipation. This week we are exploring it further with the power of gratitude.
In the conversation last week I talked about sharing the secret of the surprise Mother's Day visit my son planned for my wife. How I joyfully anticipated her joy, and then relived it all over again when I experienced it with her. It was an amazing weekend, made all the more so with the realisation that I got to experience it 3 times, with anticipation, reality and gratitude.
There has been a lot of effort put into the benefits of happiness including the scientific research of MRI scans that have shown that there is no one location in the brain for happiness. It is a collection of joyful emotions and satisfaction, gratitude (conscious or unconscious) is a big part of that story.
Another interesting fact is that those people who cultivate happiness in their life, experience less sadness. Now that is something that's definitely worth pursuing. So, on today's show, I am sharing a gratitude practice that increases happiness and builds personal resilience, moving you closer to the prospects of maximum enjoyment.
