Scott Stokely: Between Thought and Implementation
Wednesday Mar 13, 2024
Wednesday Mar 13, 2024
I have been so looking forward to sharing this conversation with you, as my guest on the show today is a professional Frisbee player. It just makes me chuckle.
In this show we discuss the gap between thought and implementation, fear and failure and the evidence that life always works out.
People like to live by specific rules. One of them is that we have a place to live, somewhere to call home, sleep, and store our things. But who said that was a rule?
Could you live a nomadic life on the road, travelling from city to city and living in hotels? That is the life that my guest, Scott Stokely, has chosen. As you heard in the intro, he made that decision when he was 19. Now in his 50s, he jokes with me that he is probably the most well-off homeless person I will ever meet.
Scott Stokely is a professional disc golf player. When he started in the sport 30 years ago, it was in its infancy. He left home and set out to become a professional player with no plan B. The conversation is so unique because he has always jumped into things.
Scott is an entrepreneur—and a good one. He has always had innate confidence in himself and the knowledge that it would be fine, and that is how the world works. For Scott, failure is just information and means adaptation is needed.
“I will be fine wherever I am. If I fail at something, I will just do something else and that will be fine.”
He explains how he turned his hobby into a profession and invented the funding model that most professional disc golfers use today. He also wrote the first book on disc golf techniques.
This is a discussion about freedom opportunity, and Scott shares his business and life model that anyone could replicate.

I have been mired today, trying to compress a fantastic two-hour conversation with a US Presidential Candidate. I kid you not. He is very funny and may even get a few votes come November.
Having run out of time, I am sharing this show with Adam Duran.
I mention Focus coaching and tools to get you moving on the show.

Adam Duran : Are You On Purpose
Are you on purpose? Our story today is about finding a purpose and living it because sailing the waves of life without direction or a rudder is an arduous journey.
My guest with me today is Adam Duran. He was the youngest sibling in his family and always felt like an underachiever. That failure pattern was repeated at and on into high school, where trouble became his middle name. He left without graduation, and his life was on the road to nowhere.
As always, with these stories, the universe offers a hand. During his high school years, Adam’s father rediscovered his faith and encouraged the family to attend church.
So at 18 and out of school without graduation and life looking so bleak, somehow church called him. That right, this tearaway lad was called to theological college, and he had a plan, and it was ministry.
It is fair to say that plan that did run straight, but it was an adventure. Adam built a life that his 15-year-old self never thought was possible. While at college, he met a girl, and they had a child. He got a job in law enforcement as she became a drug addict. Yes, it has all of the twists and turns of a good TV drama.
Living Life On Purpose
Our conversation is lively and passionate about how his faith was tested and how he came through the tough times. It is also about living with meaning and purpose and getting what you want. For Adam, it was always about being on purpose and focused. With hindsight, he can understand why his original plan for ministry became a 30-year career in law enforcement career. Because it was where he could be the most effective minister. It was about supporting those whose lives had begun like his but did not have the breaks that he had.
Adam is now retired from law enforcement, and he has moved into his second career as an Author, writer and speaker. He has taken his skills from ministry, law enforcement and fitness and written a book called “Live Life On Purpose.”

Roberto Capodieci : Software Pirate to Blockchain Innovation
Wednesday Feb 28, 2024
Wednesday Feb 28, 2024
Innovation and entrepreneurship have been the themes of Roberto’s life. He has always been fascinated by cutting-edge of technology.
Roberto Capodieci was born in Italy near Venice and was a natural entrepreneur from age 5, making and selling stuff to buy more toys.
Elementary school bored him, so he dropped out he never went back, taking charge of his education and studying everything from business management to computer programming.
He did not attend college officially, although he sneaked into lectures that interested him.
At age ten, he started a computer and electronics club. It became a business when he was 14—he started as a software house selling thousands of pirated computer games. At the time, there was no law to prevent it. With so many callers to the house and so much cash, his parents thought he was selling drugs. While not true, it created a reputation that led to a surprising opportunity with law enforcement.
The business moved from pirated software to optical archiving of documents using the first Apple computers.
The credibility of age
By the time he was 19, he was the head of a large company employing 50 people. He had to employ older people to get the credibility of age. As one so young, he would pretend to be the janitor cleaning the floor so he could listen to his salespeople negotiate the deal.
Our conversation is rich in stories as he has worked in many countries commercially and as technical support in law enforcement environments. He even knocked on the door of the FBI and asked if he could help.
Roberto has 40 years of business behind him. It has always been about technology and innovation, so unsurprisingly, he has been instrumental in laying down the foundational aspects of blockchain applications, ensuring their relevance and applicability in various sectors.
Innovation and Blockchain
His contributions extend beyond the technical aspects, as he actively educates others, sharing his knowledge through speaking engagements, publications, and mentorship.
On this show, we glimpse what is possible with decentralization and how it could protect everything from the food on your plate to life-saving medicine.
Interestingly, he started his business on pirated software, and today, as an advocate of blockchain, he is at the forefront of preventing Piracy.

Michael Harvey : Story Myth and Magic
Wednesday Feb 21, 2024
Wednesday Feb 21, 2024
I am on a project for next week, so I thought I would reshare this episode from January 2022 with Michael Harvey, a storyteller. His journey into the profession is interesting, but more than that, our conversation is about the fundamental need for stories in our lives.
On the show, I mention Focus coaching and tools to get you moving.

Michael Harvey : Story Myth and Magic
I believe that story is a fundamental part of who we are; our story gives life its meaning. But there is more; through sharing stories, we find resonance with others, and we build community bonds and stronger friendships. However, the digital world has commoditised it, and stories from music, film and social media surround us. To some extent, we have lost the art of the shared narrative.
If there is one thing that all of the top entrepreneurs have in common, it is the ability to bring people together under a shared narrative. A story of how life could be better if…
With all of that in mind, I am excited to bring you today’s guest, Michael Harvey (no relation), a professional storyteller.
As you will hear in this show, his vocation found him. You will discover the difference between performance and storytelling: how a well-told story creates the illusion of time stopping. Our conversation covers his journey through myth and magic, and we touch on archetypes like the ‘Hero’s Journey’. Michael also introduces us to the Mabinogion, a Welsh tale of lust and war from the Middle Ages.

Rocky Lalvani Take the first step now.
Wednesday Feb 14, 2024
Wednesday Feb 14, 2024
I am on a project for the next two weeks, so I thought to reshare this episode from August 2022. The beauty of this podcast is the value of these life stories, which never change; there is always something to learn.
On the show, I mention Focus coaching and tool to get you moving.

Rocky Lalvani : Take the first step now
Are you setting your course, are you taking that first step?
My guest on the show is an example of someone living a good life by design a man who came from humble beginnings.
Rocky Lalvani was born in India, when he was two years old, the family emigrated to the US, and while it was a great opportunity, the family had to start at the bottom.
It was a tough beginning, but they worked hard as immigrant families do, the American dream inspired them, and they built their wealth.
During Rocky’s early life, there were lots of success and money conversations with other ex-pat communities. While listening to these family chats, he learned the importance of negotiation and how to hustle.
Starting with his paper route, he discovers how good service leads to good tips. At college, he was buying and selling stuff until he secured a real-estate licence to sell properties.
After finishing high school and going to college, he did a degree in Economics and went out into the world to work.
He did many jobs and eventually built a solid business creating operational and management spreadsheets for small businesses.
Rocky’s challenge was that he found it almost impossible to take the first steps and move his life forward. Our conversation is not about the work he did but the wisdom he developed. We touch on mentors, health, fitness, food and more. All of the steps that help him move forward and build the life he wanted.
Today Rocky calls himself the Chief Profitability Adviser for business owners. He teaches them how to ensure they get paid and that they make pro

John Leister : Its Never Too Late
Wednesday Feb 07, 2024
Wednesday Feb 07, 2024
It’s never too late to discover your passion and inspiration. Is finding a path that works even after years of effort is possible?
My guest on this show was always creative, enjoying writing and acting, and life could have been different were it not for a debilitating skin condition. It took away his self-confidence and, with it, his dreams of acting, performing and writing.
Today, John Leister is a prolific self-published writer, excited by the possibility that every story is a new adventure. John was born in the 1960s and lives in Vancouver, Canada; from his early years, he always thought he would be in the creative industry. As a child, it was all about comics and drawing for hours.
His early education and work were uneventful, and while he thought that he could make his mark in the creative industry, it was not something he chose to follow.
In his early 20s, he walked past a drama school, went in out of interest and started acting classes. His writing talent was discovered here, and he started the journey towards an acting career. He had an agent and was attending auditions; he was an extra on a number of movies.
However, the acting life is tough, and you must be strong of mind and heart to take the slings and arrows of rejection. This was not easy for John, and it manifested into a skin condition called psoriasis, effectively ending his performance career.
It is never too late.
John has been a security guard for 35 years, and his writing has been his saviour, creating character and alter egos of himself. It took him years to publish these short stories, and in 2019 did it.
Our conversation is about that story, how he stepped out of his own limitations and became a published author. John is not your classic success tale. He is living life on his terms, at peace with his journey, and is content with where life is heading.
To find John’s books, check out the links below.

Scott Stonham : Time to Stop Chasing
Thursday Feb 01, 2024
Thursday Feb 01, 2024
Welcome to part 2 of my conversation with Scott. The first part of our conversation was about his life in the mobile phone and tech industry. The bit you will hear now is about the shift.
It was the point when he found clarity and stopped chasing money and fame.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our guest on the show is a lifelong Innovator; it was his driving passion until something changed. Innovation is that seed of possibility; it is that inspiration that takes us forward to a future that is yet to be defined.
We can all get excited by innovation and possibility, and at the same time, I have lived long enough to see the unintended consequences of our best inventions. This conversation is about motivation and wonder and how one gets lost when the passion gets distorted by money and the search for status.
It is an amazing story of an innovator. Scott Stonham is a Brit born and raised in West London, now living in Reading.
Technology was always his jam. Inspired by his uncle, who was an electrician, he tinkered and played with things to see how they worked. As a teenager, his uncle gave him a bank of switches, and he set about automating the gadgets in his room.
He was not the classic geek, being a bit of a rebel who was inspired by movies like “Back to the Future”, which led to him learning to Skateboard—the Karate Kid, which led to martial arts and finally, the Terminator. Which lead to a university degree in Cybernetics.
Upon leaving University, there was no cybernetics industry to join, so Scott went into software engineering and later got a job on Vodaphone.
Scott Stonham is a lifelong innovator.
This podcast is a fascinating exploration of innovation and the development of mobile applications in the late 90s at a time when there was no need for them. They were creating the business use and the market for the technology they were developing.
Our guest, Scott Stonham, has helped bring to life many of the innovations that we take for granted, from the Mobile Internet to Smartphone Navigation. Over the last 25 years he had senior technology and marketing roles for multi-nationals, including Vodafone, Qualcomm and edgy technology start-ups in the UK, Europe and the USA.
Today, Scott focuses his energy on driving positive impacts for people, nature and the planet. He is driven by the UN sustainable development goals and channels his work through two ventures:
Leading an accelerator for Impact Startups and helping companies understand and address their digital carbon footprints.
Scott is an advisor, speaker, and author of the Exploring Digital Carbon Footprints report, a contributor to the Open University and the founder of Digital Carbon Online.

Languages were an early factor in his future success, Spanish, Catalan, French, English and Portuguese.
College Life
He went to college in the big city of Barcelona to study Engineering and Computer Coding. College life was good; he got his degree but realised that it was not going to be his career.
During college, he volunteered at the 1992 Olympic Games as part of the team, managing the scoring and stats for the volleyball competition. That was where he discovered the joy of working in teams as part of a bigger project.
Out of college and having established software and coding were not for him, he looked for work, and the universe helped. He took on an International Relations role at his college, a perfect opportunity to use his language skills and travel.
The big break came when Angel was headhunted by an Audiovisual Projects company in Barcelona, more project and teamwork with creative professionals.
The Joy of Travel
His degree was put to good use in 1999 when he moved to the UK and found work with an international company selling Software and Training. Living in the UK and working for a US company opened the door to sales, networking and lots of travel.
Over the last 21 years, Angel has empowered more than 1,500 CEOs in 33 different countries. He is a Public Speaker, CEO Consultant, Board Member, and Philanthropist and has lived in 8 countries.
Angel Ribo Has Two Missions In Life.
1) The non-profit Wisdom for Kids. There are 81 million children living in poverty in Latin America. “Wisdom for Kids” has already supported over 1000 families, and half of his coaching fee goes straight to the organisation.
2) The second mission is connected to the first, inspiring CEOs to give back to the world.
Our conversation is a journey of exploration, travel and discovery. I hope you enjoy the conversation with Angel Ribo.

The Money Experiment
I know I keep reminding you, but this stuff is more important than ever; I have done two shows with my thoughts: Money Bags and Thought and Money.

Today my guest on the show is a fellow podcast host. Jessica Coulthard of the “Ignited Entrepreneurs Podcast” went all in recording and uploading more than 100 shows in just over a year. And get this, podcasting is her side hustle, she has a full-time role as a project coordinator.
Our conversation is a tale about the power of podcasting, coaching and personal development.
In 2015, Jessica had an epiphany; she realized she was writing down the same goals that she wrote down every January, and her life wasn’t changing. That moment was the moment of realizing that she was choosing to keep herself small, and it started her on the path to changing her life.
She discovered Jack Canfield’s book “The Success Principles™, and then it was time for the hard questions and her journey towards the life she wanted.
Our conversation is about Jessica’s journey of self-discovery, moving from a quiet introvert to becoming a woman with a voice of her own. It is about finding her place in the world and who she was here to serve.
In 2019, Jessica hosted a live event called “The Women Who Inspire Conference” 2019 and went on to become the host of the Ignited Entrepreneurs Podcast.
Jessica Coulthard defines herself as a Strategic Interventionist; she uses NLP techniques to dig deep into her clients’ unconscious and works with them to understand their driving needs, core values and motivations to facilitate rapid change!

David Kitchen : The Leadership Edge
Wednesday Jan 10, 2024
Wednesday Jan 10, 2024
The leadership edge: Leadership is one of the vital human qualities that many say is missing in our modern world; what is the leadership edge, and how do we find it?
My guest, David Kitchen, found his leadership edge on the football field. David was born into a single-parent family in Berwick, Pennsylvania. It was a loving child with the usual frustrations and challenges of growing up that needed an outlet.
David was always a big lad, and that opened the door to American football, a perfect place to express his rage and passion for life. While in high school, he played well, and the scholarship offers came in, and there was every possibility that he would get to play professionally.
However, injury meant those offers did not happen. While David got a scholarship, coupled with his attitude, no professional career awaited him.
Our conversation is an insight into the game and what it is like to play at the level. Following university, a career in sales followed. It was lots of travelling and meeting people, it did not light the fire. David could not forget his love for football; he needed to get back in the game but from the other side.
He took an internship as a football coach, studied for the coach exams and at the age of 24, became the youngest coach at any university. It started a successful ten-year career, leading from the field. The key to David’s success is his vulnerability and willingness to share his mistakes and show how he overcame them. With his head coach leaving it was time to reflect on his future. Realising that his journey through coaching was the blueprint for successful leadership, he started a new business.
Today, David has successfully brought his skills from the football field into business and leadership. He is a published author, speaker and leadership coach.

Ellice Whyte : Embracing Neurodiversity
Wednesday Dec 20, 2023
Wednesday Dec 20, 2023
Embracing neurodiversity, we are all different, and there is no normal; every human is a mix of thoughts and feelings. But some in society struggle to fit in or keep up with what is expected of being normal. Thankfully, we are aware of terms like ADHD and other conditions, and yet we still live in a world where there is stigma associated with people who are different.
In our conversation today, we are looking at neurodivergence and how it is recognised and needs to be embraced.
My guest on the show is Ellice Whyte, a Consultant Business Psychologist who is neurodiverse with ADHD.
Elice started life with a passion for music, singing, and performing. She can pick up any musical instrument and has become proficient at many. Music was her happy place, allowing her to express feelings and move freely.
However, other aspects of education were not easy, and she struggled in some areas. At some point in her late teens, she developed an eating disorder. Upon finishing school, University was the plan, but she took a gap year to get some life experience in the world of work.
Returning to education, she played to her strengths and went for a music degree. However, in her second year at University, she took a module in music therapy, which changed her perspective and gave her a new direction. She moved toward psychology and helping people.
The Master lecture that changes everything
In her mid-20s, she was studying for her master’s, and it was while sitting in a lecture that she effectively diagnosed her neurodiverse condition.
“ I literally realised, “hmm I do a lot of these!””
This revelation deepened her interest in neurodiversity and fueled a passion for helping others understand their unique brain functionalities.
Funny enough, she is qualified today to identify and give people a neurodiverse diagnosis. But she is still waiting for the medical profession to confirm her own officially.
Our conversation is a discussion of what it means to be neurodivergent and how bullying in the workplace can go so wrong. We look at how you can identify your own condition and get access to testing, it is essential to know that support is out there.
Today, Ellice provides services as a business psychologist; her work revolves around applying psychological principles to enhance organisations’ health, productivity, and culture.

Jordan Tait : Freedom Seeker
Wednesday Dec 13, 2023
Wednesday Dec 13, 2023
Could you be a freedom seeker? But what is freedom, and how do you find what you truly want? Our guest on the show is a man who set out in life to find out what it was he wanted before committing to a path.
Jordan Tait was born in Canada. His father was a carpenter, and the perfect role model to show that building or fixing anything is possible.
On leaving the university after studying geography, Jordon followed the practical side of life and started a painting business with a difference. It was just about making and saving every dollar for six months until he hit a target. The business would go on hold while he travelled.
The Freedom Seeker
Over five years, he visited over 40 countries, living the backpacking lifestyle. He learned so much on his travels and was different every time he returned home.
By his mid-20s, the idea of being a painter for life did not fit with his dreams or who he had become. However, a coaching opportunity appeared where he could coach people to start their own painting business, and that was much more interesting.
It opened the door to scratch the travel itch as he travelled all over the US and Canada. It is interesting how travelling for yourself feeds the soul, but lots of travelling for work every week eventually leads to burning out.
Now, with a life partner, they both decided to quit their jobs and travel to Australia. The timing was just before COVID… and Australia’s tough initial reaction; the closing of the country worked in their favour and led to them discovering how they wanted to live when they returned to Canada.
Ever the freedom seeker, on returning to Canada he bought a 21ft school bus and converted it into a camper and continued his exploration of the wild places in his home country.
It is a lovely story and shows how purposeful intention is the path to build the life you want. Jordan is all about personal development and continuing his exploration of life and it opportunities.its
Today, Jordan runs his own consulting business; he calls himself a business and lifestyle coach who helps underpaid and overworked owners grow their income while working fewer hours.

Olly Hermon-Taylor : Building A Life To Love
Wednesday Dec 06, 2023
Wednesday Dec 06, 2023
I am travelling this week, so I thought to share a show from last year with Olly Herman-Taylor.
The show is about brand building, entrepreneurship, holistic marketing, health and fitness and living a life that feeds us. It is a deep conversation about the world in which we live, how to find your story and the path towards your best life.
Images, shapes, and forms have always inspired Olly Herman-Taylor. While at school, he discovered a passion for design and spent his days doodling, creating logos, and drawing.
At college, he got a degree in English; on leaving, he went into the building industry, working on-site in the family business. Carrying bricks up and down ladders made him strong and fit, giving him an appreciation for movement and using his body.
But the inspiration to design was calling; it was music or clothes; feeling he might be tone deaf he chose clothes.
Olly started a t-shirt design business producing and selling shirts on the London street markets. But T-shirts would never make him rich, so he looked to his other passion, snowboarding.
Coming up with a unique design for a snowboarding jacket, he located a company that agreed to produce them if he could sell 500 jackets. He returned with an order for 5000, and his business was born.
He was just 23 and starting a business with no plan, which worked.
For seven years, he did some fantastic stuff, creating a lifestyle business and taking it to over a million pounds, but that journey involved compromise, and it stopped feeding his soul. Now, with a young family, he sold the brand and took time to be with his kids and consider his next steps.
He transitioned to Health and Fitness and set about creating a natural fitness brand, and this time, life did not roll so easy seven years later. He was depressed, in debt and unhappy.
Our conversation is about his journey out of the hole he had created. He discovered the darker sides of marketing in the fitness industry. As mentioned, it is a deep conversation about this world and what the system will do to us when we allow it.
Today, Olly Herman-Taylor calls himself a Bio Hacker and high-performance coach. He helps entrepreneurs upgrade their mindset, transform their health, uncover their purpose and create a life they love. He also hosts the Torchbearer™ podcast and is co-founder of Rare Partners, a story-based communication agency.

Joshua Lisec : The Ghostwriter
Wednesday Nov 29, 2023
Wednesday Nov 29, 2023
Ghostwriting is the skill of making the words of others sound good and interesting enough to keep people reading. Our Guest on the show is a professional ghostwriter with over 80 books to his credit. Plus, a few of his own.
Joshua Lisec has become so well-known for his skill at bringing these books together that his name often appears on the cover.
Born in the USA, Joshua’s early life was unusual as he was home-schooled. It is more common now, but 30 years ago, it was rare. His education was unstructured and self-guided. Part of it was reading every page of the 1976 bicentennial edition of the Encyclopedia Americana.
His unschooling gave him a general knowledge base on just about everything. It did not stop him from continuing into university, where he got hooked on academic life and collected 3 degrees, one of them in business.
However, by his own admission, he left the university with no usable skills. He got a job in the telecommunication industry, working on standard operating systems and procedures.
The process taught him how to analyse systems and became the foundation of his work with entrepreneurs as the ghostwriter of their books.
While working on the SOP project, he had the sense that it would not be a career, but that was confirmed by his supervisor, who said, “Your skillset is bigger than this job; you should be a professional writer.
Professional Writing
Taking her at her word, that is what he did, writing several fiction novels. That was 11 years ago, and he has been a professional writer ever since.
Our conversation is about his journey into becoming a ghostwriter and how his work has shifted out of the shadows, where clients ask him to collaborate with them and have his name on the cover.
We touch on how AI will impact writing and the industry’s future. Apparently, it is easy to detect, and there are some positive benefits.
