Simon Jordan : Tribute To A Friend
Wednesday Dec 29, 2021
Wednesday Dec 29, 2021
Simon Jordan was my first ever podcast guest, but he was also a friend and someone I admired. Our connection goes back nearly 10 years, so it was a bit of a shock when I learned that he had died just before Christmas. This podcast is a tribute to the man and his legacy:
- Branding wisdom on his main website and Simon Jordan YouTube channel
- #5ThingsClear environmental project – cleaning beaches across the worlds
- One Planet One Place environmental YouTube channel with loads of inspiring videos
- His latest book Simplicity of Success
(Links to these and other resources below)
I was first introduced to Simon when our kids were at school together and we worked remotely on some publicity for an event. At the time I saw him as the pinstripe man, a brand specialist with a YouTube channel called Simon Jordan TV. We stayed in touch through our social channels, connecting and having many great chats, on the phone or Skype.
I witnessed his transition from the suits to outdoor gear, climbing mountains and cold water swimming. The new, more genuine Simon became a bit of a hero for me. So when I started the podcast four years ago he was my first choice of guest. Simon stood for everything that Life Passion & Business is about.
The recording you are about to hear was the interview I did with Simon as part of our Reasons & Results virtual event that took place in August 2020. We called it ‘Taking Aligned Action’. I hope you enjoy my last conversation with Simon Jordan, he was an amazing man and I will miss him.
Be well my friend, it is clear that you have touched many in your short life and you clearly made a difference and contributed to so much.

Sustainable Future Initiative Pt.3 : Casey Grey
Wednesday Dec 08, 2021
Wednesday Dec 08, 2021
Today's conversation with Casey Grey is Part 3 of my ‘Sustainable Future Initiatives’ series. The topic is Buildings; our homes and businesses, the places we spend most of our waking hours. Which is exactly why they are so important in our efforts to reduce our reliance on carbon fuels.
We all want to live and work in comfortable spaces that are warm in winter and cool in the summer. That means heating, cooling and insulation, and just better buildings. So when I received a message from Casey Grey to say that he builds passive houses, I was excited to hook up and have a conversation.
Like any father, Casey wants to be a great role model for his children. So when it comes to sustainability, that means consciously working towards solutions in his construction business.
I hope you will join me for an interesting insight into the huge potential that could literally be on our doorsteps.

Shortcast : Finding Your Story
Monday Dec 06, 2021
Monday Dec 06, 2021
What do you want?
Are you sure, is that what your really want?
Sometimes the question is easy to answer, and the goal is easy to achieve. Other times it’s not as straightforward as you think. Answering this question with what I want now, at this moment, is relatively easy.
But what about the bigger picture. Does this short term goal set me on track for what I want for the rest of my life?
In this reflection, I am returning to the idea of narrative, finding your story and why it is so important. The point is without a story you are a leaf in the wind. You are on the train of life with no destination. You will be at the mercy of both commercial and media influences, and life may lead you where you do not want to be. It’s all about finding your desired destination and setting a course that ensures you reach it.
Life Passion & Business Podcast is about finding answers to life’s big questions through weekly interview with guest speakers. The Shortcast is my ongoing commitment to staying inquisitive and passionate about life with whatever is alive for me each week. Follow the links below to discover what else is on offer.

Sustainable Future Initiatives Pt.2 : David Farquhar
Wednesday Nov 17, 2021
Wednesday Nov 17, 2021
This conversation with David Farquhar is Part 2 of my ‘Sustainable Future Initiatives’ series. David is truly a serial entrepreneur who came out of retirement to head up ‘Intelligent Growth Solutions’ (IGS).
It started with a phone call in 2017… “David, would you like to see my dad’s R&D Project, it is a vertical farm.” After some initial reluctance, he went to visit the project.
“It totally blew my mind, it sits at the nexus of food and environment. Its feed the world and will do it sustainably.”
To give you a bit of background about why I wanted David on the show. The population of the world is growing and is expected to hit 8 to 9 billion by 2050. What with climate change and other factors reducing our capacity. Food production will be the next challenge going forward.
Over the next 50 years, the world will need 30% more food, using less water and less land. Vertical farming is about growing food indoors under controlled conditions and it promises to deliver real food and real change for people in the most difficult places of the world.

‘Sustainable Future Initiatives‘ is a series of podcast interviews with people who are responding to Climate Change by actively taking steps towards a more sustainable future.
Three years ago Howard Gunstock was an HR professional working in people development. It was the start of the worst year of his life. In the space months, all of Howard’s close relationships ended or changed leaving him bereft and believing his life had become meaningless.
Our conversation explores Howard’s ‘Road to Damascus’, the background to his project ‘Carbon Kapture’ and his personal shift in consciousness that made it all possible.

What Matters?
Sunday Oct 31, 2021
Sunday Oct 31, 2021
What matters to you? I’m not just talking about the big things, although they are relevant. But what about the little things that we take for granted every day. Like our health for instance.
This week I have had a cold. I rarely get them these days, but I guess face masks and social distancing hasn’t given the immune system much of a boost. It is passing through quickly enough but, I notice that colds always hit me emotionally, tinkering with my mindset, so the head trash gets loud.
So whilst stuck in my cold inspired funk, I have been trying to decide what my core story is. What is the narrative that’s playing out and what’s most important to me at the moment. This led to considering what really matters and what doesn’t. So this week I am sharing my reflections with you and invite you to explore the things that matter most in your life.

Shortcast : Living The Story
Sunday Oct 24, 2021
Sunday Oct 24, 2021
This weeks shortcast 'Living The Story' is inspired by my recent trip to Bristol and the controversial media coverage and history of the Colston Statue.
Edward Colston was a 16th century merchant whose statue was erected to venerate the £71,000 he left for charity. It was successfully pulled of its plinth and ceremoniously dumped in the river during the Black Lives Matters demonstrations last year. The media portrayed this as an act of vandalism, and yet the Story goes much deeper.
Colston was a slave trader responsible for the death of 19,000 African slaves. The people of Bristol have been campaigning to have this statue removed for over 20 years.
Life is full of Stories like this, and revealing the hidden truths is challenging.
My conversation is an exploration of how these stories run our lives, why it is useful to become aware of the narratives we are running; check that they are serving us; and not taking us into pointless or unhelpful places.
If you want to learn more about the Colston Statue, it currently resides in Bristol's M Shed Museum awaiting the decision of it's future. Link to the online version of their display here:

Erin McCullough : Finding Your Joy
Friday Oct 22, 2021
Friday Oct 22, 2021
Finding Your Joy is an exploration of thoughts, feelings and anxiety with today's guest, Erin McCullough. She reveals how finding joy is possible at any time, and that we do not have to do anything to matter. We are always relevant and our existence is enough.
Erin had no idea what to expect when she agreed to couples therapy. During the first session she had an unexpected reaction which the counsellor explained was a panic attack. She had never experienced a panic attack before, nor had she any awareness of her suppressed emotions.
“It was a defence mechanism to not feel the emotions of when I was a kid”
Our conversation explores the life transitions that occurred for her through a near-fatal accident, divorce and meeting the man of her dreams on the first 'swipe-right'. It's also a story about the baggage we carry always, wherever we go.
Towards the end of the podcast there is an exercise to explore and discover your own joy.

Claudia Goetzelmann : Living Photography
Wednesday Oct 13, 2021
Wednesday Oct 13, 2021
Claudia Goetzelmann has a knack for seeking out the hidden beauty in people and in situations, even in death. She also has an implicit trust that life will support her. How does she use this to express her passion? Through photography, and coaching women through midlife transitions.
If you listened to my shortcast a couple of weeks ago, you will know that I danced with the idea of going into photography when I left school. I allowed myself to be persuaded that this was not a good idea and my life took a very different path.
Claudia’s passion for photography started a lot earlier in life. At just four years old she started taking pictures with a little Kodak camera which is still a treasured family possession. Maybe it was this long romance with photography that eventually gave her the courage to follow her dream career, even though she was strongly advised against it by her German parents.

Shortcast : Who Am I?
Sunday Oct 10, 2021
Sunday Oct 10, 2021
This week’s shortcast explores the question “Who am I?” and is a follow up to last week’s conversation around passion and work.
If you tune in regularly, you will be familiar with the conversation about bringing your passion to the work that you do. Last week I pondered the question about the need for this and came to my own conclusion.
It fits with the idea that no matter what we do in life, our passion and mission will always find a way out. It gets expressed because that is who we are and may be what we are here to do.
But what does a job look like if you are not clear about your mission or your purpose? And how do you discover what you are really passionate about when you are not sure?
I have been there and on some level I was resisting my calling for years. And yet when I took the time to do the work and answer the above questions I discovered that I had been following my passion and bringing it into my work all along.
This week I will take you on my journey of discovery and reveal the tools that I found most beneficial. I will share what I discovered and of course there is the usual invitation for you to take this voyage of discovery for yourself.

Miriam Ismail : Passion For Life!
Thursday Oct 07, 2021
Thursday Oct 07, 2021
Miriam Ismail exudes passion for life and always has. She credits her optimistic outlook to her mother and says she has always had the capacity to see the positive side of things, even when they are challenging.
Through our conversation you will discover how she has combined her passion and zest for life with her desire to enable others to excel in their own purpose and ‘mission’ in life.
I asked Miriam what she wanted to share with my viewers and she responded with the three things she wants to share with you.
The first is to know that we are energy beings having a human experience and we are here on a mission. Once we know and understand this our whole perspective changes.
She recommends treating time efficiently and wisely and she also suggests focusing on learning and evolving in whatever topic you are aligned with.
Miriam believes these three things offer the ultimate step to having a fulfilling life. She believes this is because everything we learn takes us further into life and that is where we will learn what our true calling and ‘mission’ in life is.
Although we come at life from different backgrounds and perspectives there is a lot of alignment in what Miriam and I want for our clients. If you would like to learn more about Miriam and her eclectic approach to alternative therapies you will find all the links to her website and social channels at:

Is Passion Required? : Shortcast
Sunday Oct 03, 2021
Sunday Oct 03, 2021
Are you passionate about your work?
Do you think passion is required to do a job well?
Should we even be considering chasing passion in a career?
Or should we save passion for our hobbies?
This exploration comes out of my conversation with this week’s podcast guest Shaahin Cheyene. On the programme he says that he is not passionate about what he does, and that he does not encourage people to follow their passion in their work.
I had mixed views about this, so decided to explore it in the shortcast by reviewing my own career. In this show I share my personal experiences and what I have learned from others.
Having revealed what I have discovered, I then offer some suggestions and exercises for you to explore your own passion and how it manifests in your work and hobbies.
The exercises are also available in writing on the website page:

Simon Rumney : Dyslexia. Shame & Inspiration
Wednesday Aug 11, 2021
Wednesday Aug 11, 2021
This week’s conversation draws our attention to the plight of non diagnosed Dyslexia through Simon Rumney’s life of shame and the inspiration it now brings to his writing.
Simon has battled with low self-worth, shame and guilt his entire life.
“I was a failure in the womb.”
It all stems from a loveless childhood with traumatized parents and un-diagnosed Dyslexia which left him unprepared for the world. Although he has managed to be hugely successful with his career and prospects, he consistently sabotaged it. Only now, at the age of 66, does he feel close to getting on top of his chronic shame and self-deprecation.
What Simon brings to this conversation is a wealth of inspiration for people with learning disabilities and insight for those who live and work with them. Moreover, it gives the rest of us an opportunity to open our eyes to the ways we communicate and understand each other.

Terry Sidhu : The Path of Least Resistance
Wednesday Aug 04, 2021
Wednesday Aug 04, 2021
Unlike many of us who have been conditioned to believe life is a struggle and we have to push through challenges to reach our goals, Terry Sidhu’s philosophy is to…
“Find The Path of Least Resistance”
It is a refreshing change, and quite a surprise considering the challenges Terry faced as the child of immigrant descent growing up in a working class environment in central England.
“I grew up in 4 different communities and didn’t quite fit into any of them.”
When asked where his story begins, Terry takes us right back to his primary school years. Born the child of Indian heritage Terry’s home life was steeped in the Punjabi traditions. However, living in Wolverhampton meant his English school education was strongly influenced by western Christianity.
As if that wasn’t confusing enough for a quiet sensitive child, Terry also found it difficult to fit in with his peers. From an early age he had to contend with extensive exclusion, ridicule and bullying from other children, both at school and in the frequent social gatherings within the Sikh community.
“I never felt comfortable in this experience called life. I didn’t understand it”
Because of this Terry resorted to a solitary life and a lot of his thoughts and ideas tended to be of a religious, esoteric nature.
