Shortcast : Learning to Savour
Sunday Sep 03, 2023
Sunday Sep 03, 2023
Learning to savour is about looking for those parts of the day worth remembering and paying attention with heightened awareness.
In our last shortcast, we looked at gratitude, the simple act of being thankful for what has passed during the day. In this show, we explore the practice of savouring—a process of heightened awareness where we slow down and give all of our attention to the moment.
The point of savouring is to appreciate moments of magic and wonder that happen during the day. It is about creating opportunities that give us reason to be grateful later.
We are biologically programmed to look for the problems, crises, or threats to our existence. To the point where we will pass by the beauty and wonder of the ordinary.
In this show we explore my experience with savouring and how you could use it to enrich your daily experience.

In part two of my chat with Jeremy Lasman, we discuss the duality of passion and how it can be both bliss and suffering. We can push ourselves to an extreme because of our passion for it.
I have pushed my body because of my commitment to running. During that marathon situation, toward the end, everything was hurting, and my body was screaming that I should stop. But my inner drive, my passion, kept me going.
Jeremy was employee 110 at SpaceX. He was there at the beginning and part of the team that made it happen. Check out part one to hear the whole story
This conversation is a deep dive into Jeremy’s thoughts on how our passion is the source of innovation and creativity.
We cover the duality of passion
How our passion separates us from the impact of AI
The impact of leadership through passion.

Shortcast : Community Building
Sunday Aug 20, 2023
Sunday Aug 20, 2023
The power of community building, our communities are the social glue that holds life together and is so underrated. Only when we cut off, do we notice the gap and then the loss.
The podcast explores why community is essential, what happens when a community is broken, and why it is fundamental to human existence. Community is about the groups of people we identify with and support.
The word community is a word that is used often in business and in politics but what does it mean? In the news, we often hear that that’s that phrase from the business community or the wider community.
Are you consciously community building?
We all make assumptions that we live in a community and yet the description of what that means is actually very loose. Could you put a name or word to yours?
However, take your community access away and see what happens. Covid was a catalyst that both created and destroyed our communities. While it was not possible to meet in person, people stepped up and helped each other with food or shopping. However, that separation from our usual groups took its toll on so many.
Change is Coming
On Friday I was invited to a private viewing of a film set in the Findhorn Foundation. It is a well-established spiritual and ecovillage community. Brexit, Covid and then an arson attack have made the holding organisation insolvent, and huge change is coming. The film explored how difficult the journey has been, and opened the conversation about what is to come. I am on the perimeter of these changes and I am sure I will get to witness the best and the most difficult aspect of community leadership and decision-making as this story unfolds.
But it has made me think about my community and how I need to be more consciously building a network around me.
In this programme, I invite you to look at your circles and groups and how can you make them stronger. As Stephen Covey said we need to make time to sharpen the saw.

Jon Rennie : Deep Leadership
Wednesday Aug 16, 2023
Wednesday Aug 16, 2023
Deep leadership is a play on Jon’s history; he was serving officer aboard a nuclear submarine during the cold war. Our podcast is about the transition between services and civic street. But it is also about the application of a leadership style.
My guess on the show today is John Rennie; he runs a successful business manufacturing critical components for electrical utilities. He’s also a podcast host and the author of three books on leadership.
Jon was born to a family in Manchester, New Hampshire, just north of Boston. It is a blue-collar town, and people do not leave. He was born to young parents with equally young grandparents. His Grandfathers had both served in WW2 and talked fondly of military service.
While John was born to a loving family, life was abundant, but funds were limited, and while he father extolled the virtue of getting to college. That opportunity would only be possible with a scholarship.
He was fascinated by engineering and submarines and expressed the idea of becoming a serving officer.
Nobody wants to be an officer on a submarine.
The high school career person was surprised but did his research and found an opportunity. The Navy had a scholarship degree program which led to officer training. He got accepted, did his four years of college, achieved an engineering degree, and entered the Navy as a commissioned officer.
Our conversation is a fascinating insight into the life of a nuclear submarine, but it’s more than that. It’s what John learned from his experience in the military and how we took that out into the business world.
I often hear from people who have served that transitioning between service life and Civic Street is very difficult. Jon did struggle for seven years, but he applied his navy principles to his work, and the rest is history.
He led eight manufacturing businesses for three global companies for 22 years until he started his own business manufacturing company producing critical components for electrical utilities. He has written three books on leadership and hosts the Deep Leadership podcast.
There are many lessons to be learned here. But the biggest challenge we discussed in detail is to start a business does not mean creating a job.

Mark Kanty : Leave a Better World
Thursday Aug 10, 2023
Thursday Aug 10, 2023
If you want to leave a better world, you need to be a leader. My guest on the podcast is convinced that it is the small business that will change the world. As the leader of an SME, you have the power to make a difference.
This show is the first in a season on leadership, and we are looking at small businesses. What people get wrong and how they should start.
What is interesting about this week’s guest is that he has never held down a job in his life.
When Mark Kanty was seven, his father left a high-level corporate career and bought a marine business. His father was the role model that set him on a path for life. As a child, encouraged by his family, he had numerous little business projects.
Upon completing high school, he went to college and did business studies, and on leaving, was faced with a choice.
“When I graduated, I saw everybody else lining 70 or 80 people deep to get these junior positions at companies, and I said, that’s just not for me.”
He followed the family example and opened his own marine dealership, growing it into over $1 million in a few years, and then lost the lot as the economy turned. He was able to close that business paying all of his debts. We hear about those mistakes.
It was about this time that he had a severe car accident that made him re-evaluate his life choices and consider what was important.
As a leader you can leave a better world
He went on to have numerous businesses and became a business coach at a time when coaching meant teaching football or sorting out your tennis serve.
Mark’s entrepreneurial prowess spans over 40 years, where he’s created, launched, and sold numerous businesses in various industries. As a Business Strategy Coach and Consultant, he transitioned exclusively to online services in 2005 and has been thriving as an expert in the online coaching space ever since.
There are many lessons to be learned here. But the biggest challenge we discussed in detail is to start a business does not mean creating a job.

Shortcast : Time to Shift
Sunday Aug 06, 2023
Sunday Aug 06, 2023
It is your time to shift, when you put down a marker and decided everything will be different hereafter.
On the show, we explore the idea of the shift through the window of my wife’s ordination as an interfaith minister. Two weeks ago on Saturday in a little theatre in Milton Keynes, 30 plus ordinands were publicly declaring their vows in front of family and friends.
It was a deeply moving ceremony about love and compassion. An opportunity for these people to be recognised and seen for who they are, where they have come from and what they might become.
This was their moment of shift and joy to behold it had the sense of a wedding but different, and words are so limiting when it comes to describing any of it.
Life Is Not Measured By the Number of Breaths We Take,
But By the Moments That Take Our Breath Away. Vicki Corona,
That quote sums it up very well but even that is describing a moment and not saying what the feeling is. Very possibly because words cannot express.
In this show, we explore that event and how to go about finding a shift for yourself. What tools we can use to get to the point of shift and onward to the life that you want.
My Wife is now Reverend Cheryl Harvey and I am delighted for her.

Louise Miller : Five Pillars of Productivity
Thursday Aug 03, 2023
Thursday Aug 03, 2023
Five pillars of productivity, what if it were possible to be more productive that did not require pushing, rushing and fighting to keep up?
The conversation you are about to hear is taken from the event reasons and results. Recorded between lockdowns in 2020, it was a journey from envisioning to implementing a project.
We returned a few days ago after travelling south and being a tourist for a few weeks. There was the wife’s ordination and a family celebration, meeting new people and connecting with friends.
After loads of conversations, I was left with the feeling that people have great ideas, but the implementation always lets them down. Most of us (including myself because I have been there) will rush into a project and push like hell to get a result. Only to find that success does not follow.
Find Your Productivity Superpower
So what if there was a calmer, more sustainable way of getting things done?
That is where the productivity mentor Louise Miller and five pillars of productivity can help
Louise is the founder of Bettylou a productivity mentoring service, she has a gift for helping people out of overwhelm by helping them create a path way through. Louise is good with chaos and says there nothing is more fulfilling than turning something muddled into something beautifully clear.
In this conversation you’ll discover… the Five pillars of productivity.
- The unexpected first step to productivity greatness
- Your productivity super-power and how to harness it
- How to turn your big idea into inspired action
- Powerful habits to get stuff done with less stress and more ease
The show is 45 minutes and it will leave you with some powerful tools to get control of the chaos.
Side Note: We returned to Scotland with a combination of Colds and Covid. My voice and head was not up to editing a new show.
Next week we start the new season with 4 show on the topic of leadership.

Janice Clyne : The Fermentation & Diet
Wednesday Jul 19, 2023
Wednesday Jul 19, 2023
As we take a few weeks out, I thought to re-share this episode from 2020 with Janice Clyne.
Diet and food are always popular.
This week I am talking to Janice Clyne, The Fermentation Specialist.
We can all relate to food; it is an emotive subject and stirs memories, both good and some times not so good. Who remembers dreadful dinner dates or childhood associations? I have a horror story around sprouts that stopped me eating them for years, but for the most part, some of my best memories with friends, lovers or family are related to food and drink.
Sharing A Passion
I am a foodie; cooking and sharing food is my thing. Food is never far from my mind, I know what I will be cooking on most days and I love to experiment. So when I first met Janice Clyne, it was with some excitement. Janice is a fermented food specialist. While most of us know our fermented drinks and or fermented flour (bread) there is a whole world of fermentation that is both fun and offers enormous benefit to our health.
I first came across Janice through the Change Your World Everyday facebook group. In Facebook, group engagement is often variable, but this week Janice had the Change Your World’ers sharing photos of food and exploring new possibilities. It was dynamic, and I was hooked. I could see a whole new area of taste and flavour possibilities opening before me.

Moira Ní Ghallachóir : Global Impact
Wednesday Jul 12, 2023
Wednesday Jul 12, 2023
We are taking an editing break for the rest of July while we recharge, plot, and plan our future world domination. So I thought to share with you one of my favourite conversations from last year. With Moira Ní Ghallachóir a story of home coming and making a huge difference.
Talk about global impact. My guest on the show creates stories with her words and has captivated audiences worldwide with her powerful presentations.
But how that all began is one of those stories of the unexpected.
What does a girl do when some money arrives out of the blue just before her birthday? For my guest, that would normally have meant a party. But this year was different, it felt like there was a reason for this money to arrive.
Moira Ní Ghallachóir was born in Donegal but left to explore the world. She was living the London Life as a youth worker. From her Instagram feed, she was having a ball. But in reality, it was draining her soul, and there was a desire for something more.
When the money arrived with a birthday coming up, she saw it as a gift and packed a small bag, her journal and took the Eurostar to Paris.
Sitting in a cafe, with coffee, croissant and journal, mulling over her future – the phone rings. On the screen comes up the word ‘Home’. That is the moment that changed Moira’s life. It was the signal to go home to Ireland.
On returning to Donegal she saw the place with new eyes and wanted to share it. She told the story and became a one-woman tourist development agency.
Our conversation is about her journey from uninspired Youth Worker to Irish Tourism to Business Mentor and International Speaker. And as she explains, success is reflected in the transformative experiences.

Osbert Lancaster : Leadership and sustainability
Thursday Jul 06, 2023
Thursday Jul 06, 2023
Leadership and sustainability, when change is on the menu, it requires leaders who are ready to create the vision and make the difficult decisions required to get there.
The world is constantly changing, but as someone now in his 60s, I have never seen this pace of change. Change is coming at us in almost every direction, and we must all step up to face it.
Leadership on all levels is the answer.
Part 1 of Leadership and Sustainability
Our guest on the show is an expert in leadership and sustainability. Osbert Lancaster has been in the industry even before the word sustainability appeared in the business dictionary.
Most of his early consultancy conversations involved a lot of explanations.
Our conversation explores his journey towards his chosen career. It begins with an unusual childhood, as much of his early life was spent travelling with his parents. They were social anthropologists living in various locations around the middle east. He was not aware at the time, but the experience gave him a window into a unique way of life.
Economic Development is a Sticking Plaster
When he was too old to travel, he did his time in a private boarding school as you do when your parents travel, and ultimately went on to university to study agriculture.
After twists and turns, he found himself in In economic development. It was while working in Poland in the 1980s that he realised economic development was about putting a sticking plaster on the failures of society and creating business opportunities out to other people’s misery.
That realisation led Osbert to explore the idea of sustainability and sustainable development and he has never looked back.
Time Stamps
21:00 Passion: How can we take action
22.30 success: feeling he was making a difference and what it takes to do that.
25:00 Thoughts on Sustainability, Politics and Leadership
28.46 Contribution: Leadership for sustainability podcast
31.45 Avoiding burn out
34:00 Meaning: Connection and belonging
41:00 Leadership and sustainability
I found time to make some time stamp notes let me know if they are useful.
The next part of my conversation will be available shortly make sure you’re following This podcast see notification when it arrives.
Part 1 of our conversation explores Osbert’s life and our normal questions.
Part 2 takes an in-depth look at leadership and how that fits in to the sustainability narrative.

Shortcast : Transitions and Assimilation
Sunday Jul 02, 2023
Sunday Jul 02, 2023
Let’s talk about transitions and assimilation, that is the integration of all that we are and bringing it to the world as a contribution.
In the podcast we are looking at transition and assimilation as part of our right of passage. The show is about how the move from 50s in to my 60s has been more than a birthday.
We return briefly to my ultra marathon experience and what I have leant from that journey.
I can do hard things, and the pain passes and there is much more
There is also the ritual I used to pass from 59 to 60 years old. How I ran thought the time of my birth 60 years back.
A week of Transitions and Assimilation
In truth I have been preparing for this turning 60 as a transition. I’ve been talking about it for a while in my podcast and in someone my posts. Some of that conversation is ongoing, as my wife is currently in training to become an interfaith minister. Our conversations often revolve around transitions and connecting with all that is that’s probably led me to this place.
In the first world, we have lost touch with what it means to pass from one stage to the next. To honour and celebrate that transition. In the modern world we have lost touch with so much that makes living life expansive.
Most people see their success or contribution to the world as part of their career. There is so much focus on this idea that the career is where you shine.
Ultimately this is about learning to shine all of the time. It is about feeling confident in your skin and body. And seeing that your strengths and weaknesses are an equal part of who you are
There are some things where I am crap. I’ve never been particularly organised, I am dyslexic on many levels and have a terrible memory for names. There are more…
But I own those things. I don’t let my dyslexia stop me writing or publishing on social media. If there are errors and things that are wrong in something and someone doesn’t like it well that’s their problem not mine. And that is OK. That is not to say those errors don’t hurt becasue they do.
How Does My Journey Help You?
Remember as I say this all the time it’s your story. It has to be written, we have to create our own story. Mine is about the podcast. It is about the expansion of me and the expansion of people around me, it’s about how do we live a good life. What are the tools required for that. How can I help people find those tools and move forward. This is what it’s about for me, that is the exciting part of who I am and where I am at this time.
I will embrace the fear and keep looking to expand through it.
What would be a right of passage for you at your age and stage?
I have said before, “The Prize” is on the other side.
So I urge you to seek out an enduring adventure and push against something that offers resistance. Something that makes you grow and feels like an achievement, it does not need to be a full-on physical challenge.
I am biased, as I think something enduringly physical is hard to beat.
But there are other options. My wife for example is physically challenged for her the challenge is about writing and making it public.
I believe she is very good check out the website https://simplibee.uk/ it is beautful.

Sunday Jun 25, 2023

Do you choose your challenge or let life throw them at you? The point is life throws things at us, it’s not meant to be a journey a unicorns and roses there are meant to be ups and downs a life of colour.
This Saturday, at 11 am, I started running in a 100-mile team race, it took us 18 hours I and I ran 28 miles with a few big hills. I thought it would be great, the truth was mixed but still great.
On this show we are looking at how the media is driving the message of fear and how you can build your resilience to rise above it all. Because there is a certain power in taking charge and choosing the challenge.
We had 2 four-person teams and our job was to run 100 miles over a maximum of 24 hours, Running in pairs one from each team, it was about pacing each other and navigation. Th course was mixed terrain and easy to get lost.
I have to say it was brutal I covered 28 miles over the 18 hours it took to complete the course, I got home at 5.30 am this morning made a bacon roll and went to bed.
I have been a zombie all day and it is now late afternoon and I wanted to get this podcast out my six which may not happen.
What did I learn from the experience?
I can do hard things, and the pain passes
I put my needs first and took care of my body, I was clear with my teammate about what I needed. While I did the same for them.
Everyone reacts differently to challenges and when supported people are amazing.
So how can you bring the power of challenge into your life?

Finance to Mystic, how does the move from a life of facts to a life of intuition happen? Our story in the podcast is of transition from the rough and tumble world of finance to healing wisdom and soul work.
On this show, you will discover the importance of sacred clearing, we all clean our physical bodies, but there is more to life than this physical plain.
A 70s Child, free to explore the world
Jammine Kim was an adopted child with red hair and a firebrand personality. She had a wonderful early life in 1970 Chicago. Life was different; for Jeannine, childhood was an experience outside of the house, it was a freedom to explore. As a sensitive child, the world was full of seen and unseen experiences.
She left home at 17 and threw herself at the world, gravitating towards money and finance. Without a college qualification worked her way up from the bottom to become an IPO trader.
In the 1990s, finance was still running on a wall street mentality where greed is good, and women in the industry were commodities.
She was among the first women in the 90s to pursue and win a sexual harassment lawsuit and challenge this behaviour.
That firebrand personality served her well; she was good at the job, trained others and built teams. But life while rich was empty on the inside.
There was a calling back to that sensitive child running wild in Chicago. She found a path through yoga. That was the start of her journey towards healing and the drive to share it with others.
She signed up for healing training in China, meaning she would need to leave her job to make it possible. She would have to choose to release her income, security and health insurance benefits.
The Journey from finance to mystic
The universe has other plans. Our story is that journey and how the universe always has a hand in the process.
Twenty-three years later, she is now a yoga teacher and author, helping thousands of people to reconnect with their guidance and wisdom.
