Thursday Jan 05, 2023
Thursday Jan 05, 2023
Yes, it is our Birthday, this podcast is 5 years old this week and today is part on of our birthday celebrations.
Today we cover how the show started, and a little bit of what I have discovered. We have a brief chat with Russel Dalglish from the Scottish Business network about personal branding and being Authentic.
I try to have a short conversation with the vintage, I mean legendary Geoff Birch about customer service and lost parcels.
Both of our guests give us some quick thoughts on the year ahead.
Plus we remember those that have passed in the 5 years since I started because some of our guests have died. That is the journey, it does come to an end.

Noomi Natan : Inner Power
Wednesday Nov 30, 2022
Wednesday Nov 30, 2022
Our conversation is about discovering inner power but as with all stories, the journey is never a straight line.
On the show, you will discover the power of changing chairs and a helpful question “ How can I be more of me and have a greater impact.”
Noomi Natan was born in Copenhagen, at nineteen, most of her friends were travelling. In Denmark, it is common to take a generous gap year before completing a university education. She was working at a temporary job in advertising and wondered if she could live and work in London.
She could and found a job in a sound studio, before hopping across the pond for a 3-month internship in the US Congress. All of that experience led her back to Copenhagen to complete a degree in journalism, although she had no intention of being a journalist.
Education over she returned to London and secures a great job in commercial conference production for the mobile games industry, which was booming.
She was crazy successful for a while, with money and lifestyle. That was until the pressure, overwork, and perfectionism eroded her ability to function. She was miserable much of the time and cried in the toilet.
The crunch came when she was asked to run a project she did not want. She had to work US hours from a London office and struggled without support.
At this point, a coach friend said to her, “ you know you could speak to a doctor and get signed off from work?”
That was the beginning of moving out of the mobile industry.
Our conversation explores coaching and how that fits with the path towards a good life. We look at success and why it can be a difficult journey, contribution and, of course, the big question, what is it all for?
Finding her Inner Power
Noomi describes herself as a recovered perfectionist and a practical idealist who dreams of a world, which is safe for everyone. What a lovely idea. As you will hear on the show, she took her first coaching call 15 years ago and was instantly hooked.
Since then, she has developed her process and specialises in deeply transformational work and helping clients in a wide range of industries, from the owners of micro-businesses to CEOs of prominent household names.

John Purkiss More Letting Go
Thursday Nov 24, 2022
Thursday Nov 24, 2022
If you listen to my show on Sunday you would have heard that this podcast is 5 years old in January. and it’s time for a change. We have a few shows left in the current format that will come out between now and the end of December.
It’s funny when we consider changing or letting go of the familiar there’s an element of fear that turns up and the urge is to step away from that edge.
Of course, we just need to let go and move forward. But that reminded me of the show with John Purkiss “The power of letting go.”
It was back in 2020 and was one of those inspiring and long conversations, so long that I split the show into two parts you’re about to hear part 1 as a re-upload. It is about overcoming depression mindfulness and how to get the life you want.
The link to the previous listing and part 2 of that conversation is here.

Alexis Kingsbury : Systems For Success
Wednesday Nov 16, 2022
Wednesday Nov 16, 2022
Could you remove yourself from your business or life for 6 weeks while you take a road trip with the family? It is about creating s systems for success, it is about being organised and with processes and procedures for what you do so that others could do it for you.
My guest on the programme is a systems man, as a child, he was a natural entrepreneur, at 10 he was always making stuff and selling it. But then he came from a family where business and selling were just normal.
Alexis Kingsbury was born in Nottinghamshire in the UK. As the clever child, he was seen as the geek, the one with his hand up in class. The point is he was driven to learn and business was his primary interest. The question was how do you make them grow
After taking business studies at advanced level and went on to Loughborough University to study management science. He was still looking for the answer to that question, how do you grow a business past yourself
It was only after leaving university that he found the answer. He went into management consultancy and got to experience first-hand what the inside of a scaled business looks like.
He was terrified on his first day on the job with a new client and he was able to save them 1000s within 10 minutes.
What he discovered is that scaling a business is about people and systems.
Systems For Success
Our conversation is about his ability to break down a process and create systems. He discovered what came to him with ease was difficult for others. Ultimately he left the consultancy to start up a business with a partner. They created Airmanual and Spider gap both software services that support businesses to grow and scale.
Over the last 15 years, Alexis has worked with hundreds of business leaders to save them 1,000s of hours of their time each year, help them work more effectively, and unlock their business growth. As a speaker and guest, he has been sharing his findings, and it’s had a huge impact on many businesses

Shortcast Living Beyond
Sunday Nov 06, 2022
Sunday Nov 06, 2022
Are you living beyond? Last week I spoke about how I was limiting myself by dithering over the race this weekend.
I have had a few more thoughts and want to talk to you about living beyond. Because this aspect of limits is a far broader conversation
Limits are everywhere, from society, employers, family and culture. And, of course, reality will give us a quick reminder of our limits far quicker than we can do it for ourselves.
So I encourage you to constantly push the boundaries rather than practice limitations; when we push, it is empowering.
It is about awareness. I know that my life gets smaller when I think smaller and bigger when I think bigger. When we can think outside of physical or mental limits, it is our thinking that moves forward.
With that awareness, we can change how we move forward and start living beyond
Living beyond our limits
In this show, we look at how breathing into a limit makes it a reality and how we might look beyond it and find the resources needed to get through it.
Last week before entering the race, my dithering was that I did not want to prove I am getting older. It was my breathing into being 59 and staring at 60. I left an open question on the podcast: Can I run 10K in under 48 minutes?
Spoiler no, I did not. However, I am ok with that.
In this show, I demonstrate how I used a process to make it possible for me to get through my limiting thoughts around this 10k race. The plan worked, well, sort of. I did not make the 48 minutes. But my race time today was 50 minutes and 1 second. Gutting not to get under 50 minutes.
As I said I am happy with that and it has given me a target to explore in 2023.

Simran Sondhi : Search For Freedom
Thursday Nov 03, 2022
Thursday Nov 03, 2022
We are all seeking freedom in some way or another and many of my guests over time have said that freedom was their biggest driver. In reality, we have the desire to be free to choose our own path.
For our guest on today’s show, the search for freedom began at a German international school in Hong Kong in the 1980s and continued into her 40s
Simran Sondhi is one of 3 siblings born in the UK to Indian/ English parents. Her father was in banking and a career opportunity came up which involved a family relocation to Hong Kong. It was a shift to a new country and a colonial culture, which for a six-year-old was difficult.
It was those formative years that started her on a path of struggle and a search for freedom. Of course, her daily life in HK gave her a privileged background but the path was structured and almost set for her. Growing up in Hong Kong she was always the outsider and keen to leave soon as she could.
There was no question that she would go to university, and it was her opportunity to escape back to London. She attended the London School of Economics and studied International relations and economics with a plan to be a war journalist.
However, the LSE is a shoo-in for the banking industry and they were the only interviews she was getting. So she started a career as an investment banker.
Although Banking was not what she wanted it was an exciting career and gave her much of the freedom that she was craving. However, she always felt undervalued and as a woman in banking, it was not an easy journey.
But despite the challenges, she stayed for 12 years until the fallout from the financial crash kicked her out of the industry.
The Search for Freedom
Our conversation is about her journey as her career endured many twists and turns with years in different industries from luxury hotels, to holistic nutrition, finally culminating with pharmaceuticals.
The journey took her across continents and a myriad of roles. Transformation became her nemesis; having to start again from scratch multiple times has defined her life journey. She became the renegade, discovered her power and that gave her the life and freedom she was always looking for.
Today Simran Sondhi walks a unique path. After years of experience, she uniquely blends the esoteric with the practical. She supports women, spiritual entrepreneurs and those in transition phases. Be it burn out loss of creativity to stuck in repetitive cycles.
She is an advanced Theta Healing practitioner and teacher. And uses a diverse set of modalities including Access Consciousness and Bars, Reiki, Bodytalk, Mindscape and her own channelings to craft both one-to-one as well as group experiences.

Kevin Long : Saving Lives
Thursday Oct 27, 2022
Thursday Oct 27, 2022
Saving lives, we don’t know the impact we have on those people around us with a word or a smile. My guest on the show has worn many hats. There was a time when he was saving lives for real, and today he saves life stories in the books he gets to publish. Many of them say writing a book has saved their life.
It is all about changing people’s situation or how they see it.
Our journey on the show is with Kevin long. He is a coach, book publisher, and mentor and has been the driving force behind hundreds of Amazon Bestsellers. He knows the power of mentorship because he experienced it young.
The First Mentor
As a child, much of Kevin’s upbringing was spent with his grandparents, and it was his grandfather who became his first mentor.
One of his grandads’ sayings was, “ Who am I going to make smile today” it’s a mantra that has stuck with Kevin, and he practices it daily.
Growing up in the 1970s when the phrase “personal development” had yet to be invented. But this wise grandfather gave Kevin the books, “ Think and Grow Rich” and “The Magic of thinking big.”
The entrepreneur was born, and Kevin started little micro businesses.
Life dealt a blow at 11 when Kevin developed brain cancer that stopped him from attending school. He was lucky and recovered, but unbeknown to his parents, he never returned to education and became a farmhand.
Grandad said to get a trade, so he became a carpenter. Years later, he became a fireman ( saving lives) and ultimately built a property empire. After a bit of hubris, he lost everything in the financial crash. He returned to carpentry with less than £1 in his bank account.
Our conversation is a fantastic journey. Kevin is a 2x cancer survivor who has been through a family break-up, unexpected deaths and accidents. But Kevin’s faith and confidence in the tools that he learnt so young gave him the resilience to carry him through to the next stage of his life.
Only 1% of Humanity Writes a Book.
He started the publishing company Babysteps in 2013, helping ordinary people publish books on Amazon. Only 1% of humanity gets a book published, so it is an excellent opportunity to leave a legacy and be part of a very exclusive club.
Today Kevin speaks on stages about authority through books and how everyone has a book inside them. The publishing business has a small team that supports the whole process of book creation, publishing and promotion.
Outside of that, Kevin is a grandfather building a life he loves spending lots of time exploring his other passion, fishing.

Shortcast : Enchantment or Wonder
Sunday Oct 23, 2022
Sunday Oct 23, 2022
When did you last experience enchantment or wonder?
In this reflection, we explore how we lose the capacity to be enchanted as we age and how the modern world is designed to dampen our capacity for wonder.
We are born with the capacity to be amazed and inspired by our surroundings as we grow up we see less of the world and spend more time inside and separate from nature. We had less opportunity to see the wonder of the world. But now become inspired but the world that is created for us.
When everything is available nothing is precious.
Back in time music was a source of wonder, pre 1900 entertainment was the music hall the theatre and concerts. Hearing live music was normal, hearing amazing music was truly memorable.
In the modern world, much of our ability to be amazed is lost as we age. I know I compare a lot of my experience with my father’s. I guess because I had so many conversations with him only now am I beginning to understand.
Over the last few years of his life, he had no interest in modern film and life lost colour as he retreated into watching old TV programmes on repeat.
So what happened, where does our capacity for wonder go?
I suspect it started with photography, recorded music, radio, H
high fidelity sound, TV and finally unlimited everything.
How do we re-discover enchantment or wonder,
it starts with looking and seeing. Join me on the quick exploration of what we gain from being in awe.
As I write this after recording the show I can see that the subject is big enough to encompass a book on the subject.
Now there is a thought for the future.

Laura Powner : Get Real About Money
Thursday Oct 20, 2022
Thursday Oct 20, 2022
How do we get real about money and what does that mean? Well given the current focus on Money in the global psyche I thought it was a good time to revisit the ideas around money and mindset.
We all have a money story, I have said before I remember my father trying to make the money he was counting go further. It was all the money he had and he kept moving from one envelope to the next looking to see which bills he could pay and the ones he could not. That image of there not being enough money stayed with me for years and it still comes up from time to time.
The show you are about to hear is from 2019 with Laura Powner, she is an accountant turned money mentor and she helps people get their heads straight about their money. Not just in the sense of how to manage and count it but how to receive more.
This show was in the early days of the podcast and it is so interesting to hear my voice which I think has changed a bit in the last 3 years.
Get Real About Money
Laura is a Chartered Accountant and hypnotherapist. While coming from the world of spreadsheets and numbers she is equally at home teaching clients how to build self-worth as a Mind & Money Mentor.
Do You Know Your Value
That is not a money question but it can have a bearing on how you spend and receive money. It is difficult to build your net worth if you do not think you are worth it. How many examples are there of people who get money and lose the lot?
Laura has worked with thousands of businesses over twenty years. She has helped clients launch, grow, turn around and sell their businesses by working on both the number and the mindset of the owner.
Known for her straight-talking approach, lots of humour and no “jargon. In her words, she is a lover of all things woo but balances this with a generous dose of muggle.
Laura could be a bit unnerving if you are used to normal accountants. It was a cracking conversation which went on well past the recording.
So let’s get real about money.

Richard Blank : Explore Your Calling
Wednesday Oct 12, 2022
Wednesday Oct 12, 2022
Explore your calling, are you on a life path that feeds your soul?
My guest on the show believes that everyone has a calling.
Richard Blank is a native of Philadelphia born to a family with more than the average means and there was a plan. He was on a path to an Ivy League education to study medicine or law.
But even at that age, he knew it was important to be inspired in his chosen career. Neither of these was his calling. He convinced his parents to let him take a different path. He went to the University of Arizona, earning a bachelor’s degree in communication and Spanish.
For his junior year at the age of 21, he took a semester at a university in Madrid. It was about absorbing the language and the Spanish way of life. While he did enjoy the party scene. He also took the opportunity to travel on trains and stay in youth hostels. He explored the art and culture of Europe.
On returning to the US he took an internship with a Spanish TV station. And for a while and another job working with an importer of Corona Beer.
He used his bilingual ability and communication skills to create opportunities for himself and built a career in telemarketer training.
The Big Break
The life-changing break came when he was 27 years old. He relocated to Costa Rica to train employees for one of the larger call centres in San Jose.
He was hooked on the industry, the country and the culture
In his mid-30s he started his own call centre. It began with one seat in a communal office, and it was a slow and steady journey.
Today he owns a building and directly employs 150 people. Over the last 10-plus years, he has trained over 10,000 bilingual telemarketers. His hobby is collecting vintage pinball machines.
Explore your calling
What is so interesting about this interview, is that Richard has nothing to sell. He reached out to me because he was inspired by the work that we do. And the stories that we share at life passion and business. It is about our calling and why we are here.
Our conversation is not about telemarketing. It is about Richard’s life and the philosophy that has helped him move to a new country and build a successful business. It gives him the opportunity to give back to his adopted community.
He believes everyone has a calling. For him, it was to major in Spanish and explore the culture, and look where that got him. I hope this inspires you to explore your calling.

Morgana McCabe Allan : Radical Wholeness
Friday Oct 07, 2022
Friday Oct 07, 2022
We do not know what we do not know, this conversation is about how we see the world and how there are layers to our reality.
It is back to the stories, narratives and frameworks of society and how we are shaped by them.
My guest on the show is Morgana McCabe Allan it was her PhD that put her on the path to explore the patterns and constructs that we created for ourselves, which lead to her developing her model on the concept of radical wholeness.
Morgana was born in Pasley Scotland, at the time an area was in server industrial decline, it become one of the poorest regions, with the associated drugs and poverty. So humble beginnings, she also endured a lot of childhood illnesses that kept her out of early education.
In these situations, families either buckle and sink or rise above it. Morgana’s parents were able to model how to be better, it gave Morgana the support and resilience she needed.
Stated her first business at just 8 years old breeding small animals and went on to volunteer work as soon as she was old enough before starting work in retail.
Exploring Radical Wholeness
On leaving school she tried university but it was not for her, however, she went back as a mature student at the age of 22
She chose archaeology anthropology and Hispanic studies because it allowed for loads of fieldwork and travel. Now in education, she did her undergrad, master’s and PhD back to back over 13 years.
It was here that she lay the groundwork for her book Unbecoming and explored the ideas around radial wholeness.
It all lead to a multi-disciplinary PhD, she knew it would be accepted without corrections or rejected. As it happened it was acclaimed and the path into Accademia was open for her. But she knew she would never stay.
Our conversation is a look at the construct of society and how we can move beyond them.
For Morgana the work she has started in her PHD needed to be taken out into the world. She left college and worked with a charity for a year before going on to start her current project. Today Morgana is a business mindset, manifestation mentor and the author of the book Unbecoming, Your Unorthodox Guide to Radical Wholeness

Moira Ní Ghallachóir : Global Impact
Thursday Sep 29, 2022
Thursday Sep 29, 2022
Talk about global impact. My guest on the show creates stories with her words and has captivated audiences worldwide with her powerful presentations.
But how that all began is one of those stories of the unexpected.
What does a girl do when some money arrives out of the blue just before her birthday? For my guest, that would normally have meant a party. But this year was different, it felt like there was a reason for this money to arrive.
Moira Ní Ghallachóir was born in Donegal but left to explore the world. She was living the London Life as a youth worker. From her Instagram feed, she was having a ball. But in reality, it was draining her soul, and there was a desire for something more.
When the money arrived with a birthday coming up, she saw it as a gift and packed a small bag, her journal and took the Eurostar to Paris.
Sitting in a cafe, with coffee, croissant and a journal, mulling over her future – the phone rings. On the screen comes up the word ‘Home’. That is the moment that changed Moira’s life. It was the signal to go home to Ireland.
On returning to Donegal she saw the place with new eyes and wanted to share it. She told the story and became a one-woman tourist development agency.
Our conversation is about her journey from uninspired Youth Worker to Irish Tourism to Business Mentor and International Speaker. And as she explains, success is reflected in the transformative experiences.

Shortcast : Envision Your Future
Sunday Sep 25, 2022
Sunday Sep 25, 2022
How do you Envision your future?
A few weeks back, on the reflection podcast Resilient or Hooked, we looked at resilience and some of the steps needed to keep us out of the madness of negative media and news.
The first step on the road to resilience is having a future that inspires you. On our show today, we are looking at the idea of searching for the secret inside using vision.
I was considering this topic yesterday while cooking, and the song “Search for the Hero” by M People turned up on my playlist. That song holds a lot of meaning for me I love the idea of searching for our hero inside. I have said many times that this life is a journey, a quest to find what is possible.
You can find the full song here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntuqTuc6HxM
That is the point: In order to lead the best life, we have to envision the one we want. But how? What is the process of searching inside how do you envision your future?
The Marathon Journey
Also, most of the time, the limits to our experience are all self-imposed. A good example is my Marathon journey, I have wanted to make that commitment for years, but there was always a reason not to do it until I stopped making excuses and just booked it.
By this time next week, I will have completed my first Marathon and know what it takes.
In this show, we explore techniques you can use to find your secret and what can come out when you drop the resistance.

Carole Henderson : Beyond Grief Reprise
Wednesday Sep 14, 2022
Wednesday Sep 14, 2022
Beyond Grief Reprise. I am taking a break this week, so thought to reprise an episode from last year that seems relevant.
With Queen Elizabeth passing last week, many people are experiencing grief that they were not expecting. How does that work? Hence the reprise of my conversation Beyond Grief with Carol Henderson.
The conversation with Carol explores why we grieve and will shed some light on what people are feeling. I have not had any reaction to the queen's passing, but I have had a reaction to my son returning to University. It is exciting, its progress and opportunity for him and it has a bittersweet taste for me. Grief is everywhere.
I hope you find my conversation with Carol Henderson useful.
Carol Henderson Beyond Grief Reprise
What lies beyond grief? At some point in life, everyone dies. No matter what we do to avoid it, it's a fact. The real question is, how do we learn to live with it and how do we move on?
My guest Carole Henderson has had her journey with grief. Not only has she learned to live with it, but she has also discovered how to mourn well and support others to do the same.
But more importantly, as a Grief Recovery Educator and heart healer, the message she brings is that there are many forms of grief. From the devastating and sudden loss of someone close, right down to the grief we experience when we discover the last chocolate in the box has already gone!
No matter who you are, at some point you will have faced grief in some form or other. Join me for this educational journey about what it truly means to live well beyond grief.

Georgia Reynolds : Finding Empathy
Wednesday Sep 07, 2022
Wednesday Sep 07, 2022
How did we lose our empathy for each other and ourselves? I suspect it is the race of life and the striving for success. In the hast and pace, we forget that life is a journey to be enjoyed.
My guest is Georgia Reynolds, and our discussion is about the rediscovery of empathy.
People and Hairdressing
Georgia's passion was people and hairdressing. She went to college, qualified, took a job and worked behind the chair for over ten years. It was a wonderful place to grow up exploring relationships with co-workers and clients.
Although she did not recognise it at the time, she had discovered the power of empathy. When connecting with people in the chair, it built a bond that carried over between appointments.
Life moved on; she met married and started a family
While on maternity leave, she was offered a position as a corporate trainer for a leading beauty brand. She travelled the country, training hairdressers and salon staff to promote products. She excelled in the role, was recognised for her abilities, and took on more responsibility. After ten years, she travelled the world, doing 60-hour weeks; tiredness was normal, and life had become about box ticking and surviving.
When her daughter turned 13, she suddenly realised she had missed the journey. She had forgotten what it meant to feel and experience the emotions of life.
Our conversation is about her rediscovery of empathy, bringing her life back into balance and how she is sharing those discoveries. She is teaching the value of empathy to business leaders and teams.
